"ABSTRACT. This paper intends to show the importance and the current need of a new type of street - that we call Modal Street - able to integrate and articulate the two urban systems that characterize the contemporary city:  one structured and boosted by the presence of the street, while the other one dramatically accuses its absence.

Located in the metropolitan periphery, these arterial streets are an integral part of an intelligent combination between mobility infrastructures. They combine the modal diversity on them with the modal diversity that intersects them, turning the periphery into an orbital centrality as well as a transition area capable of promoting cosmopolitan urban life."
